What to do if you have been diagnosed with heart failure

 

If you have been diagnosed with heart failure, you should be concerned.  However, there are many things that you can do to improve your quality of life and slow the progression of the disease. As a patient with heart failure, you must demand proper treatment and change your lifestyle. Some advice in this regard is given below.

 

The causes of heart failure are

Weakening of the heart muscle can result from a number of causes, the most common of which are coronary heart disease (CHD) – particularly following a heart attack – and high blood pressure (hypertension).

 

Heart failure is closely associated with the major risk factors for CHD, which include:

Ø High cholesterol (hyperlipidaemia)

Ø Smoking

Ø Hypertension

Ø Diabetes

Ø Obesity



Understanding that the above can lead to heart failure is a key step in managing the condition.  You need to identify the risk factors that are part of your lifestyle and look to actively change them to make your heart healthier.
